Getting Started
Do I need any experience to join?
No. The majority of new members start with no previous martial arts experience. Our fundamental classes are designed to teach the basic positions and techniques in a safe and structured environment. Whether your goal is fitness, self-defence, competition, or simply learning a new skill, we’ll help you progress at your own pace.
Am I fit enough to start?
Yes! You don’t need to be fit before joining. Martial arts training helps improve fitness naturally over time. Coaches can modify exercises where needed, and you’ll be encouraged to work at a level that suits your current fitness and experience.
What should I bring to my first class?
For your first class, simply bring comfortable training clothes, a water bottle, flip-flops and a good attitude.
How old do I need to be to start training?
We offer classes for children, teenagers, and adults. Programmes are divided by age and experience level to ensure everyone receives appropriate coaching and training.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)
What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling-based martial art that focuses on controlling and submitting an opponent using leverage and technique rather than strength. It is one of the most effective martial arts for self-defence and is a core discipline in mixed martial arts.
Is BJJ suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. Every black belt started as a beginner. Our coaches will teach you the fundamental positions, movements, and techniques in a structured way that makes learning enjoyable and accessible.
Do I need to be strong to do BJJ?
No. BJJ is specifically designed to allow a smaller person to overcome a larger, stronger opponent through proper technique and leverage.
Is BJJ safe?
Yes. Safety is a priority in every class. Training is supervised by experienced coaches, and members are taught how to train responsibly while respecting their training partners.
What is the difference between Gi and No-Gi BJJ?
Gi BJJ is practised wearing a traditional BJJ uniform, while No-Gi BJJ is trained in rash guards and shorts. Both styles develop effective grappling skills and are offered as part of a complete BJJ programme.

Do I have to spar?
No. Sparring is never mandatory. Members can progress at their own pace, and coaches will guide you on when you’re ready to participate safely.
Is MMA dangerous?
Like any sport, MMA carries some risk. However, classes are carefully structured, safety equipment is used where appropriate, and coaches ensure training is conducted in a controlled environment.
What are the benefits of wrestling training?
Wrestling develops balance, coordination, athleticism, and body control. It is also one of the most valuable skills for MMA and self-defence.
